I had the best this time weekend explore the Appalachian Trail in Vernon, NJ. This post has some tips and information about hiking this trial.
Parking and Logistics:
There are two places to park. We parked near the “Heaven Hill Farm and Garden Center.” There is a lot across from this Garden Center and the Appalachian trail head is a couple minute walk from here. The other place to park is near the intersection of McAfee Glenwood Rd and Meadowlark Dr. This is marked on Google Maps. The parking lot near the Garden Center is smack dab in the middle of the Stairway to Heaven climb and the boardwalks that go through the farm and meadow land.
The Hike:
We chose to just do the boardwalks instead of the steep climb up Stairway to Heaven and were really happy with our decision. The trail is absolutely gorgeous. You cross so many different bridges and the vistas are so soothing. The terrain is flat and there is little to no elevation gain. It’s a great place to have an enjoyable afternoon hike. This trail was beautiful even in the winter and I would definitely come back again. I really enjoyed it and it was really a relaxing and easy hike, suitable for all ages.
Tips:
I always bring water with me when I hike and some snacks. There are a few benches that you can stop at and enjoy the views and a snack at.
The Heaven Hill Farm and Garden Center sells delicious donuts, farm Jams and other speciality items, as well as cider. I made the mistake of eating a donut on an empty stomach and felt a little sick after. Either way, the shop is adorable and a nice place to stop at before or after your hike.

Here are some photos of the various spots along the trail. Leave me a comment below if you end of visiting.
